It is Okay to Steal Time From the Chest of time

Prahara is an interesting term in Sanskrit. It means a unit of time. Our days and nights are divided into a specific number of Praharas, four in the day and four at night. That means, every human being is allotted a predefined number of Praharas.

Each Prahara of the day arrives with its own set of duties and its own set of challenges. Still, we, the women of today — strong and independent, find that inner strength to keep going. It is impressive how flawlessly we transition from one role to the other, switch into the hats designed for the roles, and keep moving.

But how often do we press a pause button and breathe? How often do we spare time for ourselves?

I believe it is essential to pat ourselves on the back, every Prahara of the day. Take a break, breathe, and say that we did great!

It is vital to remember that life is indeed a journey, and time well spent is all that matters. We are human beings made of flesh and bones and not engines. Well, even engines need occasional breaks and fuel.

I am an Engineering Manager at a midsize tech firm, and also I am a mother to two lovely little girls. I love my job, my husband, and my kids — my little world. But I also love writing. I can say that it’s my calling. From my personal experience, I have noticed that it is so easy to feel guilty about doing what we like. It feels as if we are being selfish to use the time to work on ourselves or on our likes that we could have used for other roles and responsibilities, presumably higher in importance and priority.

There was a time when I almost gave up on my calling – accepted the norm. But guess what? That is when the realization struck that it was indeed my writing that kept me going. It was my writing that put everything in perspective. I realized that it was something that kept me happy and motivated. I learned that I should put myself as a priority too.

Ever since I have consciously made an effort to keep up with my calling, and today I am at a beautiful spot in time when soon I am going to release my first book. There are no words that can express the joy my heart is experiencing.

I have learned that when you do what you love, it feeds your soul. And if your soul is happy, it is going to reflect on everything that you do. Everything around you is going to be happy and turn alive.

So, if you don’t have time to do what you love, or so you think, then steal it. It is one hundred percent worth it. After all, we are here — on this tiny planet, for only a little bit. In a blink of an eye, we may turn into dust.

After all, there are only so many Praharas locked inside the chest of time. Let’s remember that it is completely okay to steal that locked time from the chest of time for ourselves, for doing something that we love, for doing something that we have always wanted to do. And the time is now. Go steal it.
